CEX Customer Story

This post was last updated more than 1 year ago. Some content may be out of date.

It’s always amazing to hear when our customers enjoy using our products. Our Taiwanese partner, Linktech, told us how introducing Content Exporter for Confluence changed the game for one of their clients.

And who are they?

They are an enterprise-level organization working in the electronics industry, employing more than a thousand people. Their primary focus is producing and selling Network Attached Storage (NAS) equipment and video surveillance recording systems. In the past few years, they entered the storage area network (SAN) and network equipment market, and they even released their own network switch and WiFi router.

What is CEX exactly?

Content Exporter is an easy-to-use exporting tool made exclusively for Confluence that gives customers the freedom and flexibility to control how their documents should look like: defining custom stylesheets (CSS), adding front & back covers, adjusting margins, paper size and orientation, defining footers - all made easy!

Atlassian products they use

  • Jira Software (Data Center)
  • Confluence (Data Center)
  • Content Exporter (Word, PDF, HTML) Data Center for Confluence (Data Center) developed by META-INF
  • And other, 3rd party apps

The problems they were facing

Before using Atlassian solutions, the company didn’t have a fixed format for official reports and paperwork. Official styles and layouts were stored in each and every document file, but they may have changed from time to time. In many cases, not everyone would notice the changes, and they wouldn’t update the files. As a result, official documents were produced in different shapes or forms across the organization. The amount of manual input invested into unifying document formats was unmanageably huge, which negatively influenced the release of proposals and specification documents, causing delays in their business processes.

The solution

The company entrusted Linktech with the introduction of Atlassian solutions. Linktech was responsible for the entire introduction lifecycle: from implementation, until product training both for Jira and Confluence.

Following the introduction of Confluence, it soon became clear that the out-of-the-box capabilities of page templating and exporting did not provide sufficient customization options for the company.

Let’s see their use-case:

  • Generating a proposal is the start of every software or hardware development. For this to happen, they used page templates and exporting in Confluence
  • Confluence generated the proposal in a fixed-layout format

Okay… but how about .docx, .pdf and HTML?

This specific format did not always meet the organizations’ needs and using Confluence only, they couldn’t adjust the export file format within its native function either. The users would have to modify every file outlay format after exporting from Confluence. Imagine the frustration during this long and unnecessary process. It’s no surprise that the users weren’t so happy to use Confluence.

Expanding the native capabilities of Confluence by introducing Content Exporter proved to be the right choice for the company.

It significantly reduced the time spent on unwanted tasks such as carrying out changes in the layout of exported documents manually or modifying file formats. Introducing Content Exporter shortened the time window between exporting official documents and releasing them to the public.

Seizing the opportunities for collaboration of Confluence and enriching its capabilities with sophisticated exporting solutions provided by Content Exporter is always a good step towards efficiency for companies that are keen to innovate their documentation processes.
